As we moved into summer, it was time to start preparing for our trip to Nashville, TN for Camp Electric. A big part of these preparations is for the students to be ready to lead worship at Revolution Church while we are in Tennessee! This year, the preparations looked a little different as everything was run and organized by a couple of our student leaders! They picked the songs that were going to be played, chose the key that the songs would be played in, divided out parts to everyone in the group, organized all rehearsals, kept everything focused, worked out vocal harmonies etc. All with minimal guidance from our Angel Army mentors!! They did a fantastic job and are becoming very strong leaders!!
An exciting new program that we started up this year is a music jumpstart program. We are blessed to have a connection and partnership with Creative Juices Recording Studio here in AZ. Through this program, we are helping students and young adults through the whole process of recording 4-5 songs of their music in the studio. They record all the tracks, we help them with production if needed, go through the mixing and mastering process together, assist with artwork and then get them set up for distribution on all platforms like iTunes, Amazon Music, Spotify etc. In the end, they walk away with an EP of their music that they can be proud of...all at no cost to them!!
Before you knew it, we were officially off for our trip to Nashville!! The trip started out once again with the boys going out a couple days early together for some extra time to bond and create memories. While they were there together in the beginning, they did a 3 day devotional study together called “The Ways, Words & Wants of Young Men”. This study is on the fact that it can be tough being a young man of God and focuses on the three areas in which young men are most frequently tempted: their ways (temper), their words (language), and their wants (physical and emotional desires). Through it we discussed some Biblical ways to maintain self control. During this time, we also made sure to do some fun stuff...we ate at White Castle, played miniature golf, raced go-karts, ate donuts, took a trip to Guitar Center (where we spent more money and may have bought more music items than we had originally planned 😝 ) and one of our students spent some time recording music with Avery Roy in his home studio!
After that, we picked up the girls at the airport and we all settled in for Camp Electric. It was great to be back at camp after it being cancelled in 2020!! The worship was fantastic as usual, the new friendships formed, the overall music experience...all GREAT!! There is really nothing like walking around a campus of 700+ students where everywhere you look you see students growing and worshipping together!! Such a peaceful, yet exciting week for everyone!
After camp, we had a couple days of spending time with friends and doing some site seeing with the students. On Friday, we toured around and took some pictures together in the downtown area and at Centennial Park, then went straight to Revolution Church to get things set up and to have one last rehearsal.
Saturday, our friends, the Sherman family, had our whole group over for a swimming and pizza party. Our Revolution Church family is always so amazing at making us feel at home when we are out there. Saturday night, we loaded everyone up and went to the Founders Festival where the students all rode rides together and we enjoyed some live music and fireworks at the end of the night.
Sunday morning, we all got up bright and early and went to Revolution Church for sound check, a final run through the set, and finally the students of Angel Army lead worship for the service! There were some powerful moments throughout the service and we are really grateful that the students were given this opportunity again! After service, we went to have lunch with several of the church members and some of their students, spent some time with the Petty family at their house and then headed to the airport for our late night flight back to Arizona.
In August, we were blessed with a visit from some of our Camp Electric family for a few days! The friendships and bonds that we have made at camp over the years has been amazing!!
In October, we celebrated the Baptism of some of our good friends, including one of our very own Angel Army students!!
Thank you so much to all who have and continue to support our students and our ministry to have these amazing camp experiences each year! There are some exciting changes on the horizon and we need you now more than ever!! If you are looking to make any year end donations, please consider making a tax deductible donation to Angel Army as we work to bring an amazing camp experience to Arizona next year!! This is a scary, yet exciting step for us to take as we know that we will be able to bless hundreds of students moving forward!!
